SOFIFRAN shares the colours and flavours of African culture

The Niagara Folk Arts Festival and its seven cultural clubs recently held 11 open houses across the region, and on June 11, at Immaculate Conception Parish in St. Catharines, it was SOFIFRAN’s turn to welcome the community with an open house full of African colours, flavours and music. On the program: Congolese, Ivorian, Senegalese and Nigerien food, along with a performance of African folk dance and music with artist Justine Gogoua and the excellent djembe player Amadou Kienou. According to SOFIFRAN’s executive director, Fété Ngira-Batware Kimpiobi, there were slightly fewer people than in the years before the pandemic, but the event went very well.
