SOFIFRAN is announcing the launch of the project “Building capacity for equitable services for refugees and newcomers”, an initiative that fosters the inclusion, empowerment and leadership of women for the benefit of families and communities.

A mentorship program that supports, trains and equips Francophone women who want to offer a home child care service that meets standards of quality, safety and children’s well-being, so they can build their economic independence and help meet the growing need for French-language child care in Niagara.

Welland, February 15, 2025. SOFIFRAN is pleased to announce that it has received a grant of $362,391 through the Women's Program of Women and Gender Equality Canada.

The “Entrepreneurship for immigrant women in Niagara” project is funded by the Canadian Women's Foundation for a period of four years.

The "Fighting Racism" project is a strong and lasting commitment to confronting every form of racism, and above all the systemic racism that affects immigrants as a whole and Francophone immigrant women most of all.

It is with immense pride and deep honour that SOFIFRAN presents its African beignet recipe book, a project imagined, developed and completed thanks to the collaboration of Francophone immigrant women in Niagara.

WELLAND, November 1, 2024. SOFIFRAN is honoured to announce that it has received a grant of $95,800.00 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, through its Seed grant program.

The project is about building and running a community of practice where young Black entrepreneurs can strengthen their organizational capacity and access advisory services to improve their performance.

This project is a continuation. With funding from the Canadian Women's Foundation, we set up a community support worker service for women and families affected by family violence.

Solidarité des femmes et familles immigrantes francophones du Niagara (SOFIFRAN) accomplished two things at once on Sunday, March 11 in Welland, celebrating International Women’s Day and, above all, wrapping up its Healthy Cooking workshop series.

The weather these past few weeks has not been kind to Sofifran. The organization had been trying to bring together the various partners involved in the Émergence Plus project, but winter conditions kept upsetting its plans.

Culture, art and heritage, for, by and with young immigrants and young francophones aged 13 to 18+. By creating a stage production from the very first idea to opening night, the youth will try their hand at writing the play, making the costumes and the sets, designing the lighting, the sound and the music, and much more.

Through this study, SOFIFRAN is working with schools and after-school programs, child care centres, and public and private decision-making bodies to assess, from a systemic angle, whether their current policies on access to child care are based on the specific, real needs of women.

Sofifran widened its reach once again this year by offering a summer camp, a first for the organization.

On Wednesday, October 2, Sofifran welcomed the participants of the EntrePrend program to the offices of ABC Communautaire.

In these difficult times, when even non-profit organizations often have to cut back on their activities, the Red Cross has set up emergency support for them.

“Today’s event is extremely important because we are celebrating International Women’s Day and, on top of that, we wanted to close with the last workshop of the EntrePrend project.” Those were the words of Fété Kimpiobi, executive director of Sofifran.

At this unusual time, as society fights the COVID-19 pandemic, this project comes along at just the right moment. Its goal is to introduce seniors to a series of new activities that help them stay active and stay connected with one another.

Through this project, SOFIFRAN aims to offer support, guidance and advocacy to people going through the steps that follow a situation of gender-based violence.

Thanks to funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) Resilient Communities Fund, our organization will recover and rebuild from the impacts of COVID-19 by purchasing digital equipment to offer content online.

With this grant, SOFIFRAN will be able to renovate its current office space so it can offer a welcoming, well-suited setting for the many activities and services that fall under the four areas of its mandate, while respecting the recommended physical distancing measures.

Vice Versa grant D-53774: four activities held with students from four Conseil scolaire Viamonde schools, in partnership with SOFIFRAN. Each school has its own page with its photos.

Vice Versa grant D-54165: the Les Voix du futur project brought together students from seven Conseil scolaire Viamonde schools in Toronto and Mississauga, along with artists, improv workshops, world music, dance and social activities, to build leadership and well-being in French.

Vice Versa grant D-54196: activities in French built around creativity, expression and leadership for students at École secondaire Gaétan-Gervais and at the Du Chêne, Patricia-Picknell, Horizon Jeunesse and Dyane-Adam elementary schools.

Vice Versa grant D-54198: a year of activities in French at École secondaire David-Saint-Jacques, from robotics to cooking, from health sciences to henna art and end-of-year games.

Vice Versa grant D-53687: the Appren’TISSAGE project brings together students from the Conseil scolaire Viamonde schools in Niagara around well-being, social justice, inclusion and student leadership, in partnership with SOFIFRAN.
