As part of our Appren’TISSAGE project, carried out with the organization SOFIFRAN and the Conseil scolaire Viamonde, we took part in several activities that brought our schools together to build connections and a sense of belonging in our diverse community. We held DJing workshops at École l’Héritage, LaMarsh and Franco-Niagara secondary school, and we got our little ones dancing at Franco-Niagara elementary school. We then organized several projects for Black History Month, including a multicultural meal, a parade of traditional outfits, an African storytelling session led by Fété Kimpiobi of SOFIFRAN, and a performance by the Franco-Niagara secondary school band at Festiv’Ébène, held every year by SOFIFRAN.

On top of that, for Autism Spectrum Disorder Awareness Month, students from Franco-Niagara elementary school and École Nouvel Horizon enjoyed a show by the artist Vincent Bishop, who spoke about his challenges as a person with Asperger’s and showed us his talent as a multi-instrumentalist. And let us not forget the Grade 10 students who were invited to a French competition at Brock University in St. Catharines, to build connections with other schools in the region. We thank the Vice Versa micro-grant for making all these wonderful gatherings possible as part of our project.
