Émergence

Through this study, SOFIFRAN is working with schools and after-school programs, child care centres, and public and private decision-making bodies to assess, from a systemic angle, whether their current policies on access to child care are based on the specific, real needs of women. As a first step, the study looks at the gaps and weaknesses in the reports from the gatherings that shaped the conditions and set the current decisions on access to child care. It then identifies the barriers and challenges women face, along with the economic and social effects these have on their lives. To meet the goals of the project, the study is conducted with a focus group of women from the region, drawn from each community in different cities. A gender-based comparative analysis is carried out at the institutional level to determine the impact of this barrier on the economic and social development of women. The study rests on consultation, collaboration and partnership. The work is done with key organizations in the region as well as provincial private institutions that have positive experience to share and that have shown genuine interest in the project.
