A year of activities in French at David-Saint-Jacques: robotics and a competition, a sushi workshop, a health sciences workshop, henna art and end-of-year games, thanks to Vice Versa grant D-54198.
The project in detail
This project between the Conseil scolaire Viamonde, Kitchener region, and SOFIFRAN is part of Vice Versa, the Fonds d’appui à l’école communautaire citoyenne. It sets out to build leadership among secondary school students, to promote their physical, mental and social well-being and to give them experiences in a range of fields, in French.
Participating school: École secondaire David-Saint-Jacques, Kitchener.
Partners: SOFIFRAN, Conseil scolaire Viamonde, Vice Versa grant.
Activities held
- Robotics: building and programming robots in class, then taking part in a robotics competition with other teams.
- Cooking: a sushi-making workshop, where students learn to roll, to cut and to share a meal they prepared together.
- Health sciences: a workshop in lab coats, masks and gloves, to see what health care professionals do.
- Henna art: a workshop on henna designs, a tradition shared across cultures.
- End-of-year games: outdoor games and sports activities to close the year in good spirits.

We thank Vice Versa for its financial support, and the Conseil scolaire Viamonde for its collaboration. Thanks to this grant, students were able to live their Francophonie in an authentic, inclusive and creative way, while building lasting ties with the community.
