Sofifran Community Television Channel

WELLAND, November 1, 2024. SOFIFRAN (Solidarité des femmes et familles interconnectées francophones du Niagara) is honoured to announce that it has received a grant of $95,800.00 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, through its Seed grant program. This strategic funding will allow the organization to carry out several important initiatives that will strengthen the participation and visibility of the Francophone community in Niagara. With this grant, SOFIFRAN will be able to take the following steps: - Develop a strategic plan for the creation of a community television channel that promotes cultural diversity and supports the inclusion of Francophones through programs available online. - Design and produce three pilot video segments, which will serve as the foundation for the channel’s future content, in keeping with this strategic plan. This project is an essential step in strengthening the organization’s ability to meet the needs of the Francophone community in Niagara, while keeping pace with today’s changes in digital communication.

For more than 17 years, SOFIFRAN has been hard at work offering a range of social, cultural, educational and economic services to the Francophone and Francophile immigrant population of Niagara. The organization plays a fundamental role as a driver of social cohesion, making intercultural exchanges easier and working hand in hand with many community partners. The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is a leading provincial government agency that supports community projects aimed at improving quality of life in Ontario. In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, it invested about $110 million to support more than 1,000 community projects across Ontario in a wide range of fields, such as social services, art, culture, sports and recreation, environmental sustainability and economic development.
