Vice Versa grant D-54165: the Les Voix du futur project brought together students from seven Conseil scolaire Viamonde schools in Toronto and Mississauga, along with artists, improv workshops, world music, dance and social activities, to build leadership and well-being in French.

The project in detail
This project with the Conseil scolaire Viamonde, in the Toronto and Mississauga area, from kindergarten to Grade 12, set out to build leadership among secondary school students, to create a strong partnership with SOFIFRAN and to promote physical, mental and social well-being, by bringing students together with artists working in varied, multicultural forms, exploring personal expression and discovering new ways of thinking.
Participating schools: École secondaire Michelle O’Bonsawin, École élémentaire Gabrielle Roy, École élémentaire La Mosaïque, École élémentaire Micheline-Saint-Cyr, École élémentaire Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau, École élémentaire Charles-Sauriol, École secondaire Toronto Ouest.

Activities held
As part of a long-term project, students took part in a series of artistic and cultural activities in collaboration with SOFIFRAN. The Vice Versa grant made it possible to support activities designed to:
- Offer francophone workshops and artistic performances that showcase the cultural heritage of different communities, around Black History Month, Francophonie Week, Indigenous History Month and the Franco-Ontarian celebration.
- Organize interactive activities: dance workshops, world music, cultural discovery and many forms of artistic expression.
- Give secondary school students the chance to build their leadership by helping plan and lead activities for elementary school students.
- Create inclusive spaces that encourage intercultural exchange, creativity and the physical, mental and social well-being of students.
Activities included: a visit with magician Marc Trudel and the magic of math; an Improteines show and improv workshops; the Tournoi des Oursons improv tournament; living museums; percussion and djembe workshops; Gumboots dancing; interactive quizzes, cooperative games and community meals.
Results and impact
The Les Voix du futur project gave students the chance to live their Francophonie in an authentic and inclusive way while discovering different art forms and cultures. It strengthened the ties between the schools, SOFIFRAN and the community, and gave young people opportunities to build their confidence, their creativity and their leadership skills.
